Rotary Christmas walk for Rotarians, family and friends
Monday 28th December 2015

The 2015 circular walk will be on Monday December 28th (Bank Holiday) and start at Tim Barkers farm - Bankfields Farm, Draycott. DE72 3NX - 10am prompt so please be there in plenty of time. If you fancy it just turn up on the day as no need for any prior notification.

Much of the walk covers a stretch of the River Derwent bordering Tim's fields but also a neighbour who has given permission for us to use a stretch of his land which means we can walk from the river to the bottom end of Market Street, Draycott and on towards, but not as far as, St Chads. We then return via fields and back lanes/paths to Tim's farm. In order to make the walk more family friendly it is limited to just under 4½ miles. Hopefully it should help alleviate a little of the Christmas over eating and also covers some interesting paths even local Neil Hall didn't know existed!

This year we have no eating pub to direct you to at the end but it has been suggested we meet at the Coach and Horses for a pint after. Obviously there are several suitable places serving lunches either towards Breaston or in the direction of Ockbrook etc.

Please note this is likely to be a fairly muddy route particularly by the river so suitable footwear and clothing is essential. Neil Hall has been with us to recce for Health and Safety issues and can see no obvious problem areas apart from the narrow road towards Wilne, where we will ask people to keep a wary eye open for traffic. His full report will be made in due course. It is a completely flat walk so no hill exertions but slippery conditions will mean care is needed particularly for any elderly people who may be with us. (no rude comments please)

Our sincere thanks go to Tim for agreeing for us to use his land and parking area.

Organisers are Peter Woods, John Cox and Neil Hall and please contact any of us if there are questions.
