Speaker Meeting 24th February

The Church Wilne Rotary Club welcomed Shirley Dawson, to its speaker evening. Borrowbrook Home link; was formed in 2002 to relieve loneliness and isolation of elderly people in the Ockbrook and Borrowash area. There are 259 people registered with the group, 59 of which are men. They receive support, in the form of lunch clubs and coffee mornings supported by community transport which Home link pays for. Trips to Chatsworth at Christmas are organized every alternate year.

Home link provides IT training in 6 groups of 4 people. They also run chair based exercise classes. These events are oversubscribed but they work hard to train as many people as possible as quickly as possible. The age profile of the membership was impressive, there are 121 members in the age range 60-79 and 137 in the range 80-99

In 2012 they received the Queens Award for Voluntary Service with invitations to the Buckingham House Garden Party.

It costs £60k to run Borrowbrook Home link, they have a couple of paid part time staff, an office, large insurance and transport costs but Church Wilne Rotary Club agreed that it was a vital service in the community and would be full heartedly supported.
