Speaker meeting 20th July 2015

Inner Wheel President Diane Addy with President Tony

Tony Beenham the President of Church Wilne Rotary welcomed Church Wilne's Inner Wheel President Diane Addy to its meeting on Monday 20th July at the Royal Oak in Ockbrook.

Diane was brought up in Toton and is married to Colin and they have four daughters and now live in Spondon

Upon leaving school she decided not to go to University and started her career at Boots whose training was brilliant. After awhile she moved into buying and enjoyed her work with both Mothercare and Next and during this time would travel the world looking for what she describes as the "Inspiration Shop". From there Diane worked for Mamas and Papas, who were based in Huddersfield, and she set up a buying office in Hong Kong. Having recruited her new team Diane would spend 2 weeks in the UK and 1 week in Hong Kong. It was a bit of a culture shock as staff and suppliers assumed men to be the boss but this was not a problem for Diane. She learned quickly and was able to say the Chinese word for too expensive which always worked well in negotiations.

At this time many factories in China moved close to Hong Kong with the workers staying at the factory for 11 months of the year before returning home for the Chinese New Year. Health and Safety over the past 20 years has much improved and there have been big changes in the Infrastructure.

Diane then decided to take 6 months out, as she wanted to have more time at home. She is now working for the NHS and is a Director at two practices in Ilkeston.

She was invited to join the Church Wilne Inner Wheel Club some 4 years ago by Angela Beal and her charities this year are Diabetics UK and the Air Ambulance.

The club's vote of thanks was given by President Tony who thanked her for her background, insight into Diane's travels and family life and wished her well with the NHS in Ilkeston.
