District Governor Roger Summers presents President Tony with the new Rotary Tie

On Monday 3rd August Church Wilne Rotary members welcomed District Governor Dr Roger Summers to its weekly meeting at the Royal Oak in Ockbrook.

Dr Summers said it was great to be back with the members having been AG for the Erewash Group for 3 years when had worked with the club in liaison with Friesland School.

For 2 weeks at the end of January this year he along with 540 District Governors Elect had attended the Rotary International Assembly in San Diego, California. This was very much 2 weeks of learning more about Rotary with meetings lasting from 7.30 am until early evening. If you were late for just 2 meetings you were back on the next flight home at your own expense.

The RI President "Ravi" Ravindran from Sri Lanka announced at that meeting his theme for the year "Be a Gift to the World"

Dr Summers covered many aspects including the eradication of Polio, membership, the club vision and Rotary Foundation which is Rotary's only charity.

Recently a member of the Group Study Exchange team from Nepal to our District, who upon his return took control of this District's donations following the earthquake, which was fully utilized and audited.

He spoke about Youth services which are fundamental our future, Rotary business partnership with Toyota, Raleigh and Boots and continued by emphasizing that marketing, PR and communication was absolutely vital.

Finally Roger spoke in detail about his 7Cs challenge to all within the District which are: Change, Communication, Consideration, Co-operation between clubs, Continuity and the item at the top of the list Continue to enjoy every meeting and fellowship that Rotary offers.

In summary he said each and every one of us has a unique gift to give to our ever changing world.
