Speaker meeting 21st September 2015

Davy and Andrew with President Tony

The members of the Rotary Club of Church Wilne welcomed to its speaker meeting on Monday 21st October Davy Hudson from Hudson Wealth Management Ltd and Andy Stokes from St. James's Place

Davy, whose company was a recent sponsor of the club's charity horse ride, introduced the main speaker Andy Stokes and said the talk would educate, inform and be entertaining.

Andy spoke about a vast range of subjects all related planning in advance of retirement and said pension changes introduced in April have put individuals in more control of planning for their future. But 93% of people are not on course to achieve the retirement income they want. More than half never checked the value of their pension saving. Action now will be the key to saving enough for when you stop working.

He continued by speaking about the 5 unknowns factors in building a retirement portfolio and they are:
1. How long will I live?
2. Will I remain healthy?
3. Inflation?
4. Interest rates in the future?
5. What will the equity markets do in the future?

Andy also spoke about other changes and opportunities and said everyone can now have face to face guidance with Pension Wise and via the telephone from the Citizen Advice Bureau

Other examples given included ISA's v Pensions, how pension funds are taxed, drawdown, annuities and in summary he said "don't stick your head in the sand, many more choices are now available"

In the Club's vote of thanks Rotarian John Cook said it had been an enlightening talk which had brought lots of questions from the members. It had been a most informative and certainly an entertaining talk and he thanked Andy for his presentation.
