Speaker meeting 28th September 2015

President Tony thanks Nick at the end of his presentation

The Rotary Club of Church Wilne welcomed Nick Lawford to its recent speaker evening, he gave an insightful presentation into the excellent work carried out by Nottingham Hospitals Charity. They raise funds to provide the extras to support patients and their families while undergoing treatment in our hospitals in Nottingham. Their work can be viewed on their web site: www.nottinghamhospitalscharity.org.uk

They typically raise between £3m and £5m per year. The big challenge this year is to raise an additional £2m to build an onsite helipad at the Queens Medical Centre (QMC) so that critically injured patients can be taken to the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre. At the moment the helicopter has to land at the University and then an ambulance takes the patient to the QMC, adding 15 minutes to the journey time. This cause is particularly close to our hearts as one of our colleagues was saved by the air ambulance following a serious injury. Our club supports the air ambulance and the building of a helipad at the QMC would further benefit patients. The appeal can be supported by calling 0115 962 7905 or emailing charity@nuh.nhs.uk. To donate £5 via text message, send NUHC07 £5 to 70070.

£2.1m has been donated towards a new centre to transform the care of Cystic Fibrosis Patients and £100,000 to enhancements to Hayward House, the hospice and palliative care centre at the City Hospital.

Nick showed 2 videos during the presentation:
Nottingham Hospitals Charity - Celebrating our new children's wards   and   Nottingham Hospitals Charity - Saving Lives Helipad Appeal film
