Speaker Meeting 6th February 2017

Bihari Patel – So, what do you know about Prostrate Cancer and prostrate problems?

The members of the Church Wilne Rotary Club welcomed Bihari Patel to its speaker meeting on Monday 6th February when his talk was "So what do you know about Prostrate Cancer and prostrate problems?"

Bihari is a volunteer speaker for Prostrate Cancer UK and his talk covered the following subjects; What it is, where it is and what can go wrong.

Only men have a prostrate gland and it is usually the size and shape of a walnut and it grows bigger as you get older and sits underneath the bladder.

The signs, symptoms and what to look out for were fully explained by Bihari and if you have any of these you must see your doctor.

There are risks related to age as this mainly affects men over 50. There is also an increased risk if your father or brother has had it. 1 in 4 Black men will get prostate cancer at some point in there lives as against others at 1 in 8. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of getting prostrate cancer that's aggressive.

If you need to take action speak to your GP who will explain the pros and cons and what to do next.
