Advantage Joshua
A budding star in the making

Church Wilne Rotary Club President Adrian Perkins served up a £250 cheque to Joshua Johns to help with the cost of maintaining Joshua's wheelchair and equipment. Adrian stated "This will enable Joshua to continue his training and to help in his dream of getting to Wimbledon one day". Adrian went on to say that "It is an honour for our Club and for me personally to be able to help such an inspiring young man and we will be watching his career with interest".

Joshua Johns from Borrowash has Right Sided Hemiplegia (Cerebral Palsy) and Epilepsy, but has always had a huge love of sport. Even though he has not yet been playing tennis for a full year, it has become his life's passion and plays wheelchair tennis 4 times a week and has already won a doubles tournament with a good friend from Kirk Hallam.

Joshua is able on his feet and does not use a wheelchair at any other time, but due to his disability would never be able to excel in mainstream standing tennis which is why he is able to compete in a chair.

Joshua currently travels approx 450 miles a month to train, plus coaching costs, which amount to £62.00 per month. On top of this Joshua travels to training camps elsewhere in the country such as Bolton, Preston, Grantham etc.

Just last week we got some very exciting news confirming Joshua has been selected to represent the North of England in the National School Games to be held this September at Loughborough University, which is a 3 day residential event (, this is a huge achievement in his young tennis career.

Joshua's Dad Steve said "A year ago we would not have been taking such measures, but unfortunately since government tightening up on disability benefits, our last award for Joshua was massively cut, hence our search for assistance has started, should anyone else wish to help please get in touch".
