Speaker Meeting 22nd January 2018

Simon Keeling - Derby Rotary Satellite

The members of the Church Wilne Rotary club welcomed Simon Keeling, who is the chair of the Derby Rotary Satellite Club, to its speaker meeting at the Royal Oak in Ockbrook on Monday 22nd January.

Simon was a member of the 2006 Group Study Exchange team before joining the Derby South Rotary club, but due to family and business commitments left Rotary.

A few years ago when meeting a Derby Rotary member he heard about Rotary Satellite clubs when Rotarians meet once a month in smaller groups. Last year after meeting informally they were welcomed into Rotary. They now meet once a month in the Derby city centre at 6.00pm, and can also be more flexible with when and where they meet and make good use of social media.

To date, working alongside and sometimes supporting the Derby Rotary Club they have held several events including Mercy Ships, Charles Hanson Antiques, a joint event with the Derby Interact Club, a Polio Plus and an OAP lunch.

Simon said the Satellite Club was a great way to promote Rotary to the younger generation; they are innovative and flexible and have the advantage of the support of their parent club in Derby Rotary.

Rotarian Ken Watson gave the club's vote of thanks and said "I understand the advantage of your attendance commitment and the importance of fellowship banter and I wish you Simon and the Satellite club members all the best for their future"
