Speaker Meeting 29th January 2018

Cassandra Hughes - The Sick Children's Trust

The members of the Rotary Club of Church Wilne welcomed Cassandra Hughes to their meeting at the Royal Oak on Monday 29th January when she gave a presentation on the Sick Children's Trust.

The Trust was founded in 1982 and they believe that every family with a seriously ill child in hospital should be able to stay together, just minutes from their child's bed during their treatment.

Currently they have ten houses offering clean, comfortable accommodation where the whole family can stay close to their sick child's bedside, with the nearest one opened in 2001, being at Sheffield which supports large areas of Derbyshire.

The Trust works with hospitals, supporting them in their role and provides complementary support to their families.

President Michael Crawford help raise awareness of The Sick Children's Trust

A video about an eight year old girl who had suffered a road traffic accident and had multiple fractures and was thought initially to have died was viewed. It was clear that having her parents with her throughout the ordeal was reassuring and of wonderful support to her family.

Frank Dillon gave the club's vote of thanks and said "I congratulate you on the good work you do when you provide a great help with the trauma and it is wonderful that the parents do not have to travel far to be with their child. The home from home support must play an active roll in their recovery".
