Meeting 25th June 2018

Classic Vehicle Evening

The Club staged its first Classic Car BBQ evening on 25th June at The Royal Oak in Ockbrook. The evening was perfect – warm sunshine at a lovely venue and good company.

An eclectic mix of twenty-eight vehicles were on display ranging from a 1942 Willys MB 'Jeep' to 1970s Corvette Stingray. Other vehicles from the 1940s included an Austin 16 and Jowett Bradford van. John Gregory displayed what he described as his prehistoric tractor – a 1960 International Harvester B275 – interestingly made in the same factory in Yorkshire as the Jowett Bradford. Land Rovers also featured with Michael Massey's delightfully tatty Series 2 and Mick Barker's Series 1. Two classic police cars attracted attention too – an ex-Heartbeat Ford 100E and ex-Leicestershire Constabulary Ford Anglia 105E.

Star of the Show was awarded by President Adrian to Simon Scargill and his Triumph TR4 – a worthy winner, but a difficult choice given the quality of machinery on display
