Speaker Meeting 5th November 2018

We Will Remember Them – WW1 1918 - 2018.

On Monday 5th November, the speaker meeting was an opportunity for members to remember a relative or family friend who served in WW1.

Stories of survival, gassing, dying from wounds, prisoners of war, and many with no known graves made for a thought-provoking evening.
Graham Markwell told us about his wife's great uncles 'the Beechey Brothers'. 5 brothers who died and 3 who survived. The youngest 3 still volunteering even after their brother's deaths. A book about the family called 'Brothers in War' is still available to buy.

The reminisces were followed by a 2-minute silence.

Memorabilia on dispay including the Brothers in War book.

Members of the club will be attending the local Remembrance services including Draycott and Ockbrook/Borrowash.

Church Wilne Rotary Club is attracting new members through various initiatives, associate membership, satellite clubs and Friends of Rotary, where people can assist with running some of our events. Volunteering helps to get a taste of what it would be like to join the club
