Barry Austin Golf Day

Chilwell Manor Golf Club
Thursday 26th July 2018

Thursday 26th July, "the hottest day of the year", saw the playing of the annual Barry Austin Golf Competition organised by last year's winner Rtn Brian Stokes.

Following a bacon sandwich lunch, 8 stalwart Church Wilne Rotarians set off where only "Mad dogs and Englishmen go" out into the midday sun.

Chilwell Manor Golf Club course proved to be as challenging as the heat, with only the greens and tees showing any signs of life with the occasional odd Rotarian. The first 9 holes proved a test for all on bone dry fairways and fast greens and all the scores very close there was no indication on who might be the winner this year.

The next 9 holes proved to be a different case, the course still as challenging, but for one Rotarian challenges are there to be overcome and with 23 points on the back 9 Rtn John Cox stormed to the top of the leader board to be this year's winner, 10 points clear of the field, which will make his wife Dorothy very proud of him.

Other successes came to Rtn Brian Stokes who was nearest the pin on the 12th green and Rtn Martin Dowey who had the longest drive on the 18th.

Brian presents the winner John with a prize.

Neil steps in to Present the nearest to the pin prize to Brian.

Longest drive winner Martin receives his prize from Brian.
