Speaker Meeting 29th April 2019

Marc Kinch
Sailing and Flying

Guest Speaker at the Rotary Club of Church Wilne on 29 April 2019 was Marc Kinch, Chief Theoretical Training Instructor at Ryanair based at Castle Donington. Marc is an electrical engineer specialising in the implementation and training of electronic equipment in aircraft.

First Marc told us about his very varied and exciting career, which began with him joining the Navy at the age of 18 years. During his time in the Navy, he became an electronic weapons engineer working on nuclear submarines before progressing to designing electrical and digital test equipment at a nuclear facility in Plymouth.

Later on, Marc trained as a commercial pilot and went on to develop his career in aviation training. He told the Club the training system is rigorous, starting on fixed simulators, progressing to floating simulators before finally flying the aircraft for 6 laps on a designated circuit. Interestingly Marc stated that there are already remotely controlled pilotless aircraft flying in China and the prospect of this being used in Great Britain cannot be dismissed.

A further role is for him to manage and overlook aircraft performance to make flights more efficient, such as reducing airtime by a more detailed flight plan which helps to make the trip shorter and therefore more cost-efficient. Marc's talk was fascinating and showed how his role at the airline is essential in ensuring the efficiency and safety of an aircraft and its crew.

Church Wilne Rotary Club is attracting new members through various initiatives, associate membership, satellite clubs and Friends of Rotary, where people can assist with running some of our events. Volunteering helps to get a taste of what it would be like to join the club
