Charter Night 4th April 2014

The Rotary Club of Church Wilne held its 29th Charter Anniversary at Trent Lock Golf and Country Club on Friday 4th April when over 120 attended a most enjoyable evening.

Flautist Chris Hill gave a musical start to the evening which was followed by an excellent meal.

Andy Cartwright, the Master of Ceremonies, successfully ensured the evening flowed in a orderly fashion which included the introduction, by Mick White, of all the visitors from 16 other Rotary or associated clubs.

The toast to Rotary International was given by VP Tony Beenham who spoke wisely about what Rotary does and achieves both International and locally.

The District Governor Peter Moralee in his response and toast to the Club congratulated the members on their many achievements during this Rotary year.

Church Wilne President Greg Maskalick thanked Peter for his leadership of District 1220 and then continued by covering the many projects completed so far this year. The club had been very successful and all members have been very much involved. Major highlights include the Charity Horse ride held last September for the Air Ambulance, the Christmas Float, Foundation grant for Uganda and lots of minor events that again have been a success.

Greg spoke about the Derbyshire Children's Home and was delighted to present a cheque for £500 to Barry Butlin and Roger Davis who represent this charity through Derby County FC. There are still many club events taking place before the end of June and these include the Clay Pigeon Shoot, Curry Club, Derbyshire County Show and the Senior Citizens Party.

Ray Webb the President of Castle Donington Rotary Club responded to President Greg in a most entertaining fashion.

Stephen Woolly a Past President of Church Wilne RC gave a wonderful talk entitled "A mis-spent Youth in the Law" which was illuminating with stories of yesteryear, amusing and very well delivered. All in all a great night was enjoyed by all and President Greg thanked the main organisers John Astell, Colin Orrick and Tony Beenham along with the MC Andy Cartwright.
