The members of the Rotary Club of Church Wilne welcomed Kaye Thuregood and Steve Scott to their weekly meeting at the Royal Oak in Ockbrook on Monday 4th April.

Kaye, who is the chair of both the Draycott Village Fund and Draycott Village in Bloom, gave the members an update on their ambitions to achieve Gold in this year's Village in Bloom competition having just missed out on Gold last year. Their theme this year will be gold and will also feature bikes which Draycott has a long and glorious history with their manufacture.
Kaye thanked the Rotary Club for its help over the past year and in particular with the recently installed defibrillator and the donation of over £700 from the pork cob sales at the Dickensian evening along with the marshalling at the event.

This year's event and the switch on of the Christmas lights will be held on Tuesday 29th November.

Finally Kaye said the 3,500 purple crocus bulbs supplied by the Rotary Club had been a colourful delight in the village.

Steve Scott, who is the Rotary District Youth Service Officer, gave an overview to his and District's objectives with the many opportunities through his Rotary team. This includes Rotakids and Interact, which has the added benefit of getting their parents interested in joining Rotary. Other events he covered included Young Musician, Young Chef and Young Photographer.

The Club's vote of thanks was given by Pat Bevan who said it was critical that we continue our connection with these valued opportunities and said we are currently reassessing our avenues with the local schools.
