On Monday 22^nd February we were able to welcome Doug Price back to our zoom meeting to complete his journey around the lovely city of Chichester in West Sussex where he lives close by.

Doug gave us a lovely picture of ten special attractions in the area including the beautiful Cathedral which has had a somewhat chequered history of refurbishments due to originally having been built on unsuitable foundations that have, however, survived and it still is a beautiful building.

Fishbourne Royal Palace still stands and there is a lovely Festival Theatre along with the Dean gardens. Bosham Quay and West Wittering beach are some of the other attractions that make this such a lovely place to visit.

Lockdown, like everywhere else, has had a devastating effect on the Chichester shops but Doug included a town walk by way of YouTube to show us what it was like on a normal day before Covid took its toll.

There have been several civilisations that have left their mark on the area.....Roman rule in 843 AD, then the Anglo Saxons under King Arthur and The Normans who built the Cathedral on dodgy ground. In 1635 the North Tower collapsed and in the 19^th century the landmark spire collapsed too. All have been replaced with more substantial foundations!!

The city has four gates, North, East, West and South-and the roads are all built around those four gates in a square formation.

The club felt that Doug has aspirations of being a comedian as he filled in some of the gaps with clips and funnies making the talk a very pleasant and easy one to watch. He also invited anyone from Church Wilne to make contact if they are in the area,sooooo, when we are free we must take him up on it!!!
