Rotarian Alan Bush, from Sherwood Sun Risers Rotary Club, gave a fascinating Zoom presentation about the 12 month partnership between Rotary and CarersUK. In 2011, there were 6.5 million carers in the UK, that's 1 in 8 adults. The top challenge expressed by these unpaid carers were concerns about the negative impacts, of providing care, on their health. The COVID-19 pandemic has swollen the ranks of these carers. Some estimates put the figure at up to 1 in 4 people could now be providing unpaid care in the community. There are 800,000 young carers between 5 and 17 years old, around a third of 11 to 15 year carers are missing school. Often people take on these responsibilities, not discovering the help available unil they are struggling to cope. Help is available from CarersUK, the help line is open 9am to 6pm, Mon - Fri on 0808 808 7777 or by email: advice@carersuk.org at any time. Help & support is also available through the CarersUK app: https://www.carersuk.org/search/jointly-app The partnership between Rotary and CarersUK aims to raise awareness throughout Rotary's network at club, district and national level.
